Christmas Firsts

Anni got her first haircut on Christmas Eve. Megan did a great job, although Anni wasn't happy about it.

Anni also had her first experience in the snow.

She wasn't sure what to think of it.

Annika's First Word

Annika said her first word yesterday!

"Up!"

I was sitting on the couch playing with Kelly's phone and she ran over and started patting the cushion next to me and said, "Up, up, up!" She's been holding her arms up when she wants to be picked up for awhile now, and saying "uh, uh, uh!" but she finally got it all together.

She's got 2 bottom molars and 2 on the top are halfway through. I love this picture because you can see the gap between her front teeth. It makes her toothy smiles so sweet.

Annika's First Hike

We took Anni out on her first hike today. We just went to the nature preserve like we normally do in the evening, but today she got to walk. We decided that she was walking well enough to get her some real shoes and let her run free. She loved every minute of it, even though she had a hard time staying upright on the uneven ground. Her shoes are a bit too big too. We couldn't find the kind of shoes we wanted in baby sizes, she's a 4, so we bumped her up to toddler shoes.
She was falling too much when she was walking on her own, so we held her hands and she did great. She jabbered and pointed the whole time.

Anni took her first steps! She walked all the way down the hall, while I was at work, of course. She's trying to do it, but usually only makes it about 4 or 5 steps before she falls.

We're working with her as much as we can and she's getting better. I give it another week and she'll be running circles around us.

43 Weeks Old

Anni is standing like a pro and will inch a tiny bit to one side or the other while standing, but not much else. It'll be a week or so before she's cruising around the furniture I think. She's learned to pick things up with her thumb and first finger now, and feeds herself like a champ. I've got a few darling videos I'll post later.

I think her top teeth are coming in now, she's been fussy and had a runny nose all week. Poor little muffin won't eat well and just seems uncomfortable.

Look at all that hair! It curls quite a bit when she's fresh out of the tub.

41 Weeks Old

Annika is pulling herself up to standing fairly regularly and her one top tooth is slowly coming through. She's a lot less miserable from it this week. She's just as busy as ever, and seems to be getting more and more ticklish. She laughs quite a bit more than she used to.The newest thing she's started to do is giving kisses. Granted, her kisses are just her pressing her wide open mouth against your cheek, lips, or nose, but it's really sweet. Sometimes she licks our cheek rather than kissing it, but that's just part of her charm.

On the Move!

Little Miss Annika has learned to crawl! She's growing up so fast, and is getting into everything. She's so busy it's hard to keep to focused long enough to get her to eat or to get anything done yourself.

She's still working out some of the kinks, and tends to try and crawl on her left knee and right foot. She just sits down and grumps when she gets tired or frustrated. The best motivation we've found thus far isn't toys, it's walking out of her sight. She tries to follow, and it's just adorable.

37 Weeks Old

Anni's second tooth came in this week. It's a little swollen over at the moment, but the other one is coming in strong. She loves being outside, so we're going to go take a walk while it's warm.

Her cousin, Josh, is quite a bit ahead of her. He is crawling, walking around the furniture, has 6 teeth, and is about 24 pounds. Our little Anni-bear is very close to crawling, tries to pull herself up, has just 2 teeth, and is maybe 18 pounds. We'll find out her official weight and height in 2 weeks.I just love all of her blonde hair and her sweet attitude. She talks to us all the time and is getting a lot of inflection in her voice. We can tell when she's curious, tired, irritated, having fun, trying to get our attention, talking to herself, just jabbering, or even singing.

25 Weeks Old

Anni learned how to sit on her own! Well, balance anyway, she can't sit herself up, of course. It was just like a light clicked in her head one day and she thought, oh, this is how sitting works. She hasn't had any problems with it since.

She loves her toys now that she can play with them properly. I can't believe how fast she's growing. Her 3 to 6 month clothes are getting small, we'll have to start putting her in 6 to 9's now.

She's got such a happy and loving personality. We have the sweetest baby I could imagine.

Anni's First Strained Food

Anni got vegetables for the first time on Christmas Eve. Grandma LeAnn and Grandpa Brent got to be there too. She didn't even pull a face at the sweet potatoes, she just gobbled it up and grumped for more. She didn't have any issues with them, so we've given her carrots, which she liked, butternut squash, she adored that, and we're gonna do some green veggies or fruits on New Year's.

That's How I Roll

Annika has worked out all the details of rolling from her back to her belly. In the process, she's forgotten how to roll from her tummy to her back, she gets pretty mad when she gets stuck on her front.

20 Weeks Old

Nothing much going on this past week. Anni finally rolled from her back to her belly on her own. She can't do it very often, but likes to arch her back and turn onto her side. She's still iffy on the rice cereal. She loves faces, and will reach for the person holding her's face.

She's very cuddly, especially when she's tired, and loves to cuddle in bed with us before bedtime.

She's really enjoying all the lights on the Christmas tree too. She's playing with her voice a lot, mainly with volume. She's just discovering that she can make really loud, high pitched noises.

Rice Cereal

This is our first attempt to give Annika rice cereal. It went over fairly well. She wasn't too keen on the new taste, and wasn't very fond of the new texture and method of eating. We'll keep at it and she'll be a pro in no time!

18 Weeks Old

At 18 weeks old, Annika had her 4 month old pediatrician appointment. Her head cold is getting better, just a runny/stuffy nose now.

She found her feet yesterday! I love it when babies suck on their toes, so I'm very excited to have tons of cute pictures coming.

She's halfway to rolling over from her back to her stomach, she's just got to get her arms out of the way and she'll have it.

First Laugh

Annika's first laugh. We were so excited! We can't seem to get her to do it again, so we're just going to stick with the naked baby version.

11 Weeks Old

Poor little Anna has been sick. She's has a fever off and on for the last three days and has been pretty lethargic. The doctor said to just keep an eye on her temperature and monitor her fluid intake. Which is accomplished by monitoring output.

Rocky Baby Balboa

On the bright side, she's smiling a lot now, and doing it spontaneously. Laughing and squealing in delight are the next vocal milestones. Rolling over is probably the next motor skill milestone.

Annika's Blessing

We will be blessing Annika on September 28, 2008 at 9 o'clock in the morning, at 100 W 600 S in Logan! I understand that 9am is early to have to be in Logan, so we hope to see everyone at least at the brunch after. We don't have an exact location on that yet, but I'll let you all know when we do.

Most Adorable Video EVER!

7 Weeks Old

Annika is 7 weeks old today. She's starting to smile and coo. They're just little ones, but she's getting better at them.

She's sleeping for 4 to 5 hours at a time during the night too. She still thinks that bedtime is at 1 or 2 am. Better than when it was 2 or 3 am, I suppose.

Late night antics!

She's still spitting up after every feeding. We're worried that she has acid reflux like her Daddy.
