15 Weeks

The bones in our baby's inner ear have started to form, in a few weeks s/he'll be able to hear my heart beating, my belly gurgle, and in about a month, mine and Kelly's voices. S/he has packed on almost a full ounce this past week and is about 2.5 ounces total now. The length from the top of the head to her/his little rump is just over 4 inches. His/her legs are still a little on the short side, but longer than the arms, the body is finally longer than the head and the arms are almost the correct proportional length.

So, the fun thing I learned this morning: when I poke at my belly where the baby is when I'm standing, it'll be hard and won't give, but if I keep prodding at it the baby moves and my belly will suddenly go soft and give and then will be rigid to one side or the other, usually. I can't feel any kicking yet, so that's the best connection I've got: pestering my baby till s/he moves away. Practice for 18 years from now maybe?

Kelly got paid yesterday, so we went out to dinner. This was the first time we'd gone to a sit down resturaunt together (other than in Minnesota) for a long time. Of course we got a horrible waitress (we're cursed, and I don't know why. I'm a good tipper!) but toughed out the first 20 minutes of being ignored because we both really wanted cheap, greasy Mexican food. I'd been craving it all week. When our food finally got there it wasn't that good. I downed it anyway, but about halfway through the baby decided s/he really didn't want Mexican food anymore. My stomach threw a fit, I thought I was going to have to run out of the restraunt. I sat through it, and turn several lovely shades of white and green according to Kelly, and it passed. I finished another quarter of it, because I refuse to waste money, and we went home. I didn't feel very good for the rest of the night, but just ignored it, becuase I usually feel like that and didn't give the restraunt another thought. Kelly was fine until about 3am. He hurled for hours. I never did. Now, I'm wondering if there was something wrong with the food, or if my queasy was just the baby.

The Name Game!

Since no one else seems to like the names we pick, and since we can't agree on any names for a boy, now it's your turn! Leave me a comment with your name suggestions, and I'll put up a poll of the best ones and we'll see if we get any farther with that.

4th Month OB Visit

Yesterday's appointment was an easy one. I got to hear the baby's heart with a doppler, which was comforting. I'm terrified something is going to happen because I can't feel the baby move yet, so I don't know if s/he is okay. I'm gaining weight right on track and everything is where it's supposed to be.
We have a date set for the next ultrasound. On March 12th, we will know (hopefully) if we are having a little me or a little Kelly.

My belly popped again last night. Everyone says that pregnant women are beautiful, but that saying isn't very comforting when I can't zip up my fat pants anymore and my gym shorts are too tight. I'm gonna have to break down and buy maternity clothes. I just don't want to yet.

14 weeks

Welcome to the Second Trimester!

Supposedly I'm going to have more energy now and just feel oh, so much better. Currently, I'm still exhausted, dizzy, and cranky.

Our baby is making faces now and has started sucking his or her thumb. S/he is moving around a lot, but I still can't feel it. I notice little pokes and twinges here and there, but I'm not sure if it's the baby, or just my body doing weird things. My lower back, down between my hips, just above my tailbone, hurts like the dickens. I'm afraid that's only going to get worse as i get bigger. The baby is about 3.5 inches long and weighs about an ounce and a half now.

The majority of my belly is just fat. Just below where it sticks out the most, where it pokes out just a little and is kinda flat, that is where the baby actually is.

I have a prenatal appointment on Tuesday. If Dr. Blackett does an ultrasound we might be able to tell if our baby is a he or she, but the doctor probably won't do it until next month's appointment.

13 Weeks

I think I've figured out the vomiting now. I'm fine so long as I don't let my stomach get too empty. Yesterday was a bad day. Ramen isn't that bad coming back up, but pitas are.

My belly was popped out a lot yesterday. The one pair of jeans that still fit were too tight. Time to start putting a rubber band around the button I guess. I don't want to buy maternity clothes yet. I'm only in my 4th month and I'm not that big. Supposedly, my belly does most of its growing and stretching at night. That would explain why the muscles across my lower belly hurt so much during the 6 times I have to get up to pee. I was so proud of myself last night that I woke Kelly up at 4am to tell him I slept for 5 solid hours without having to pee. You just have to take the little victories you get and run with them.

Our baby is probably about the size of a peach right now and weighs about the same as 4 or 5 quarters. All my pregnancy calendars are starting to vary on what they say the size of the baby is. The peach comparison seems a little big, as most sites agree that s/he is somewhere between 2.5 and 3.5 inches long. Maybe I'm just a bad judge of size or am used to big peaches.

The placenta has taken over and the vocal chords are forming. Her/his senses of smell and taste are refining and the fuzzy hairs that babies are born with are starting to form. Fingerprints are forming on those tiny little fingers too.

12 Weeks

Our little baby is almost 2.5 inches big now and weighs a half ounce. The liver is functioning and s/he's producing insulin. S/he is also peeing and actively inhaling and exhaling amniotic fluid.

The First OB Visit

I'm getting the feeling that having this baby will be one of the most embarrassing and uncomfortable experiences of my life. I didn't actually get to meet my doctor until after I undressed and was sitting on the exam table with an over sized paper towel covering my lap. She asked how I was feeling, and all I could really say was "uncomfortable and embarrassed." She smiled and said that it's only gonna get worse. We saw our little one's heartbeat, I can't believe how fast it is! She said everything was progressing normally and our baby is right on track for the August 3rd due date.
Our next appointment is the first week of February.
