11 Weeks

This is the last week of my first trimester!

As mentioned on my other page, the morning (or all day, to be more accurate) sickness has subsided. I'm still a little nauseous here and there, and the smell of cooking beef still makes me want to hurl, but it's much better. I've actually forgotten how horrible it was, mostly. Yay for pregnancy horomones.

The baby is growing about a half an inch to a full inch a week now and has doubled in weight; s/he is about a half and ounce now and somewhere between 1.5 to 2 inches big. Soft nails are growing to cover the ends of her/his fingers and toes. Eyelids are growing over the eyes, sealing them shut. The kidneys are starting to function too.

I'm going to post the picture from our ultrasound as soon as I get it scanned on Sunday!

10 Weeks

This is gonna be a big week! Yesterday was my first prenatal visit, but I only saw a nurse. She gave me the quick run through of: yes, you're pregnant, so, you can do this, you can't do that, and don't do anything stupid. She'd already seen a half dozen other girls that day so she was talking really fast. In the end, all she really wanted was my blood and urine, so I didn't learn anything new except my official due date: August 3rd of 2008, unless the baby is farther along than we thought, which will be determined by an ultrasound.
My first appointment with my actual OB, Dr. Anne Blackett, is on Tuesday. She's going to do a pelvic exam, ugh, give me the results from the blood and urine the nurse took, and she's going to do the ultrasound to check on the baby's size and heartbeat! I'm making Kelly come with me.

I'm only throwing up every few days rather than several times every day and I'm not as nauseous as I was. As soon as it was gone, I'd forgotten how horrible it was. Mostly I'm just exhausted a lot now, and insane. My horomones went crazy this past week, and Kelly has suffered the brunt of it. Lots of crying jags, lots of yelling at him for no reason whatsoever, and a lot of "leave me the hell alone." He's really being wonderful, which makes me feel like an even bigger jerk. I just keep telling myself that the placenta is gonna take over in about a week and then I'll be a little more stable.
Our little angel's heart has completely formed, all the organ systems are present, although not quite functioning, and the bones are starting to grow. S/he is about 1.2 inches long and only weighs about a quarter of an ounce, there's also about an ounce of amniotic fluid cushioning him/her. My uterus is supposedly about the size of a grapefruit, (normally it's the size of my first) so most of my bump is just the fat my body is storing to feed and protect the baby.

9 weeks

I missed last week from all the Christmas craziness, I know. I'm starting to show now, but I'm the only one that can tell. Mostly my belly just looks like I've been eating too much Christmas candy, which I know isn't the case, as most everything I eat comes right back up. So far, I've managed to hurl in both my bathrooms, my kitchen, my in-law's, my parent's, work, and the parking lot at work. The constant nausea is starting to subside a little bit, but not the vomiting. I just keep telling myself that it means the baby is doing well. Granted, that's not as comforting as it could be when you're trying to talk to your boss and have to run for the bathroom.

Our little gummi bear is somewhere between three quarters of an inch to a full inch long. S/he has most of his/her joints and is moving around, although I won't be able to feel it for another 6 to 10 weeks or so.

7 Weeks

The ticker at the top of the page is right on the money. I've spent way too much time with my head in the toilet this past week and have determined: I need to clean it more often!

We told my grandparents about the baby today at my graduation breakfast. Both sets seemed very excited for us, although a little surprised.

It Has Begun...

Looks like I'm one of the lucky few pregnant women that will suffer from morning sickness. I woke up at aout 530 this morning, sicker than a dog. Saltine crackers no longer help. I slept on the bathroom floor for awhile, but got cold. Eventually I went downstairs with a pillow and a blanket so I could turn on a light and hurl to my stomach's content without bothering Kelly. At about 8am I finally started to fall asleep on the couch. Kelly woke up and came to find me. I got a lecture (sort of) about how I had scared him and from hereon out I have to stay upstairs or wake him up because he worries. It was sweet. We went back upstairs and slept for few more hours. I'm getting some oatmeal to stay down now, and am feeling a little better.

6 Weeks

I am 6 weeks pregnant now. Most everything agrees that the baby's heart is going to start beating at anytime. She/he has visible arm and leg buds and is about the size of that piece of round paper that comes out of a hole punch.
Morning sickness has started to kick in. I haven't thrown up yet, but am so miserable that I'm having a hard time making it to my early morning classes. Good thing today was the last day of class. One professor is going to let me take the 7:30 Monday morning final at 9:30. I'm getting sick at night too. Basically, my day goes from so sick I can't stand the thought of food from when I get up to about 11am, then I'm so hungry it almost becomes a hostage situation anytime someone around me has food till about 7pm, then I get sick and can't stand the thought of food again.

My clothes feel like they're getting tighter. It's too early to be from the baby, so I'm pretty sure I'm just retaining water.

Breaking the News

We told Mom and Dad about the baby yesterday. They didn't take it well as Kelly's parents did.

You're serious aren't you? You are in so much trouble.
